hey all,

first of all i would like to thank my good friend sqwidge for you suppport through my heli life.
The name eggbeater comes from the RAF calling heli pilots hence the name.
I`ve been a rc enthusiastic since my dad had a rc controlled line spitfire,think i was about 5yrs old.
i`ve had a tamiya rc 4wd electric car,boat,precedent high boy trainer X2 lama5 bell,2channel 20quid heli(make dont no).
Current models Blade 400,x3 hs65cg, gy401,dx6ti.Twin jet fixed wing dont no much about it ask sqwidge he`ll tell you more.
Got into heli`s about xmas 08, neighbour gave me his maplins lama5 to fix, i fixed it for him and did`nt give him back for a while.
then my missis boought me a ebay 20quid special she did`nt now anything about it 2c fixed pitch up down and yaw it was poooo.
then i read up on the heli`s and decided to get a sim first Esky fms for xmas 20quid not bad starting point then aero fly pro then realflight g4.5 is what i`me using at the min its ace.The stage i`me at the min on heli is loops and rolls and turns but only in normal mode not idle up as i need to set up and be more confident with.
Well there you have it i`ve got a few stories for ya on crashes but i`ll tell them another time.

Welcome Eggbeater,

I was also RAF for 16 years, must admit that I never heard a pilot called "Eggbeater" only the heli, when it was used as a loving term. Perhaps your experience was later than mine and things had changed. I left in 1972, and my squadrons flew fighter jets, so I did not have too much contact with heli pilots.

As someone else has noted, it was indeed usually the heli that was called an eggbeater (for obvious reasons)

I did not spend time in the RAF, but they taught me to fly on Tiger Moths way too long ago now !!! I have held a UK PPL ever since, and have some 1500 hours P1 logged in various GA aircraft. Not as much fun as jets, but there we are

my brother in law was a lynx heli pilot in RAF and he was refered to as an egg beater and thats where i got it from but i wont argue with the experienced i bow down to the real pilot

But my experience is all in little planes,so no match for the mighty jets your jet jockey brother flew in. I would luv to get a ride in a modern 2 seat fighter or jet trainer

Cessna's don't quite have the same aura do they

Hi Chopperaddict,

I have flown in jet war-birds, but the most fun to fly was the Chipmunk and the greatest experience of flight was when I went hang gliding, that is as close to being a bird as you can ever get. You can really feel the air currents, lifts and drops, it's real flying skill then, not being kept up by sheer power.

Perhaps if your Cessena was as aerobatic as the Chipmunk you might have thought more of it. Prop driven aerobatics are more fun than jet ones.

Well, As I said, I got my PPL via the RAF section of the CCF at school when I was 16 using the flying Scholarship scheme as it was then. They sent us off to RAF Hornchurch to go through Aircrew selection, and once you passed that successfully, you got 4 weeks at a flight training school and 30 hours flying to quilify in.

My cholce was Oxford Flying school back in 1960, who had 3 Tiger Moths for RAF student training. One actually had a radio intercomm....... the others Gosport tubes.

I aklso got plenty of chances to fly Chippies at White Waltham as part of the cadet force, and as you say, great little aerobatic beasts, as indeed were the Tiger moths.

Strangely I also did some hang gliding off Dunstable downs in the days of the Rogallo wing, and nearly got beaten into the ground by a glider from the nearby gliding club Had to file an Air Miss for that incident

Also flown a lot of hours dropping first timers and high lift relative jumper parachutists in the West Country with C182's and C172's. Ground to 12000 feet and back in under 15 minutes on a good day...... Takes some doing with the door off a C182.

Happy days eh.........

As you say, prop based aerobatics are very exhilarating as you simply don't have the power of a jet to get out of trouble.

Still love flying these little helis as well in my dotage
